Iapetus, home of Gaea's daughter
Recently, the Cassini Probe gave us unprecedented up close photos of Saturn and her moons. Gorgeous stuff. Iapetus was photographed up close as well. The DSV Ringmaster was initially sent out to investigate weird shit goin' on with Iapetus. Well, my my my. Iapetus is indeed a mystery. Richard C Hoagland has some interesting ideas about what the images indicate. However... I think we can safely say that what's really going on here is pretty clear. Gaea's daughter is growing on Iapetus. As described in Titan, she has formed a band around the equator of Iapetus's rocky surface. 'Nother couple of decades and she should be ready to launch herself away, possibly ripping Iapetus asunder. The rings of Saturn were formed in a similar manner. Neat, huh?
Yeah, that 'wall' running around the equator? Yeah, NASA don't know what it is, kiddies. Check here for some reeaally weird shit :)
